DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for verifying the genuineness of an email using a digital signature. When DKIM is activated for a particular domain, a public cryptographic key is published to the global Domain Name System and a private one is stored on the mail server. If a new email message is sent, a signature is generated using the private key and when the email is delivered, that signature is verified by the incoming POP3/IMAP server using the public key. Thus, the receiver can easily discern if the email is legitimate or if the sender’s address has been forged. A discrepancy will occur if the content of the email message has been modified in the meantime as well, so DomainKeys Identified Mail can also be used to ensure that the sent and the received email messages are identical and that nothing has been added or removed. This email authentication system will enhance your email safety, as you can verify the genuineness of the important emails that you receive and your partners can do the exact same thing with the emails that you send them. Depending on the particular mail service provider’s policy, an email that fails to pass the test may be erased or may be delivered to the recipient’s mailbox with a warning.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

If you host a domain name in a cloud hosting account from our company, all the mandatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail option will be set up by default. This will happen once you add the domain in , on the condition that it also uses our NS records. A private cryptographic key will be generated on our mail servers, while a public key will be added to the global Domain Name System automatically using the TXT resource record. In this way, you won’t need to do anything manually and you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of this validation system – your email messages will be sent to any destination without being discarded and nobody will be able to send out messages forging your addresses. The latter is pretty important if the essence of your web presence involves sending out regular offers or newsletters via email to potential and existing customers.
